Last day at Sea!!

This morning early our ship left Nassau steaming toward Cape Canaveral. The sea today was calm and the sun was bright on the deep blue water. The day was very restful and Patty and I both have enjoyed our trip but are very eager to get home to Tommy who has been staying with his cousin Jack. I love the fact that I will be seeing my boy tomorrow but dread the seven hour ride home with this urchin. Patty finally crashed this evening; she has been going full force this entire trip but she hit the wall around 7:45 pm this evening. We escaped the eastern Caribbean without any braids, beads or sun burns. We must be off the ship by 8:45. This afternoon I was resting on the deck and realized I could not recall the day of the week nor the date; some call this dementia I call it vacation.

A day in Nassau

This morning we arrived in Nassau at 7 am. There were several other ships docked with us and the markets were bustling with shoppers. I returned to the ship before noon and Patty braved the crowds to find deals and explore. The water is so blue it hardly distinguishable from the sky. I have rediscovered my enjoyment of the “long Island ice tea” this is an adult beverage that is totally devoid of tea to spite the name. This drink is a close relative of the “pan-galactic gargle blaster.” This was a relaxing day and I look forward to tomorrow which will be a day at sea.

Freeport Adventure

Today was yet another adventure. Patty woke up at 6:00 am to meet the majestic rising sun. I lay like a slug in the bed until 8:30. We arrived at Freeport and did the tourist thing; visiting shops and haggling prices. They packed 10 people into a taxi (minivan). The couple behind us was buff and beautiful wearing next to nothing to accentuate this state of being. Well Patty and I could hardly contain our laughter when the young lady looks at the man and said, “Oh no what if we have missed our ship to Nassau!” In which he responded confidently, “no problem, we’ll catch a cab, relax.” The young lady answer, “oh, ok.” Patty and I quickly glanced at each other and then our heads dropped quickly to the floor to avoid burst out laughing. We had a great time and Look forward to tomorrow.

On the Open Sea!

Well at we left Port Canaveral at 4:00 PM as scheduled. Patty is feeling very tired because we left the house at 5 am to get to the port. The cruise is underway and the makeup of this crowd is much different than that of those on the Canadian Cruise we took a few years ago. The median age is much lower, the alcohol consumption is much higher and the guests are engaging is behavior which is suitable for a frat house. It is funny how the “Electric Slide” can turn the most unassuming types into party animals! Great fun as an observer.

Somewhere Beyond the Sea!

Patty and I are taking a cruise to the Bahamas. We will be leaving on Sunday the h and returning on Thursday. Tommy will be staying with his aunt Bonnie, uncle Steve and cousin Jack. We are excited to get away from the rat race for a while and to just chill out. The ship we are going on has miniature golf and giant water slides. This is exciting for us and I will share pictures each day from our trip on this site. We both will miss Tommy very much but have the ability to call him each night before he goes to bed. Being the peak of the hurricane season is a bit worrisome but we survived Hugo! Keep us in your prayers… The LORD on high is mightier than the noise of many waters, yea, than the mighty waves of the sea. Psalm 93:4

My Favorite Deputy!

Tommy’s got a new set of pajamas, they are styled after his hero, “Woody the Cowboy” from the Toy Story movies. He enjoys saying things like, “there’s a snake in my boots” and “somebody poisoned the water hole!” in emulation of his hero. This weekend his Grandmother Ayres came to visit and he was excited all weekend to see her. Grandmother Ayres has inherited the name “Grammy” and he loves his Grammy. Grammy and I were able to paint my office this weekend and it looks really nice, light yellow. We had a good end to our weekend when Patty, Grammy, Tommy and I went to church Sunday morning and then took Grammy out for grandparent’s day to a Greek restaurant. We all enjoyed the tiropita. Tommy gave me two big hugs before bed that was the best! “…He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul…” Psalm 23

Out of the mouth of babes

This past Saturday Patty, Tommy and I were sitting at the kitchen table eating lunch. Tommy often comes up with random verbal explosions during dinner like, “you’re my favorite deputy” or “Alex bites and he is naughty” Well this past Saturday we had the sliding glass doors in the kitchen open to let in the sunlight. It was a beautiful day and Tommy chimes in with a random, “Jesus made this day for us.” Patty and I stunned looked at each other. While we have been training Tommy in, child sized bites, Christian doctrine, to hear him say this complete thought with such conviction was both a pleasant surprise and a joy to our hearts. “A wise son makes a glad father” Proverbs 10:1a
